The program

Where the plan meets the work.

P9 owns the entire Detail level of Pi System v2.0. It is the program for converting an approved Package-level plan into reliable weekly and daily field execution — the Last Planner System, the 6-Week Rolling Look-Ahead, the daily cycle, constraint resolution, PPC reliability and the consolidated performance report.

It receives the approved Master and Package baselines from P1, P2, P3 and P5, and hands daily and weekly field performance evidence to P5 (integrated controls) and P6 (performance intelligence). It shares the Detail level with P3 (supplier docket and contract admin) and P4 (field risk integration) — P9 covers those interfaces; ownership stays with the primary program.

What you'll be able to do

Seven things a graduate can do on a live work package.

Every outcome is a field routine you'll be able to stand up and operate without facilitator support — assessed on the deliverables you produce, not on opinion.

Set up and operate the Last Planner System on a live work package, producing a Pi v2.0 D-100 Last Planner System Setup Pack with training materials, implementation plan and operating procedures.
Build and maintain a reliable D-220 6-Week Rolling Look-Ahead with documented multi-discipline interface review at the 2-week commitment point and weekly status updates as D-240.
Run the daily field cycle — D-230 Daily Logistics & Coordination Plan and D-540 Daily Progress Report — and integrate it with the weekly Last Planner routine.
Track, analyse and resolve field constraints through the D-740 Constraints & Issues Tracking Log, closing the loop in the D-750 Constraint Resolution & Decision Log.
Operate PPC reliability analytics (D-620), production and resource utilisation analysis (D-630) and delay pattern analysis (D-640) to drive evidence-based weekly decisions.
Author the D-610 Last Planner KPI Framework — performance thresholds and report format — and produce the consolidated D-650 Last Planner Performance Report weekly.
Coach field teams on Last Planner discipline and continuous improvement, embedding routines that sustain field performance over the project lifecycle.
The curriculum

Fourteen courses, from Lean foundations to coaching the discipline.

The sequence follows the Lean Construction implementation lifecycle: foundations and system design, then planning routines, then daily execution, then check-phase analytics, then act-phase reporting and coaching. The progression is cyclical — once the foundations are in place you operate the full Plan-Do-Check-Act loop on a real work package over multiple weeks. Once approved it may not be reordered without a Change Log entry.

How it's structured

A progression of depth, tier by tier.

Tier governs depth; Type governs pedagogy. P9 leans hard on Type 1 (tool and process drill) and Type 2 (complex judgement), with Type 3 elements in Course 14 where coaching enters — a Merrill and Gagné backbone with labs, field exercises and Kolb reflection.

Four maturity tiers
Foundation2 courses
Read and challenge the look-ahead
Working knowledge of Lean Construction principles, Last Planner theory and the D-100 setup pack. Can articulate the seven wastes in a field context.
Intermediate7 courses
Own the weekly and daily cycle
Independent ownership of D-220, D-230, D-240, D-540 and D-610. Can run the daily and weekly routine on a routine work package.
Advanced4 courses
Judge the evidence
Complex judgement on constraint resolution, PPC reliability, production utilisation and delay root cause. Can author D-740, D-750, D-620, D-630 and D-640 and defend the analysis at a weekly review.
Expert1 course
Report and coach
Integrated reporting and coaching authority. Produces the consolidated D-650 and coaches Coordinators, Site Engineers and Supervisors to operate the discipline reliably.

Questions

What field teams ask first.

Who is this program for?
Lean Specialists and Lean Coordinators take the full sequence — P9 is their core program — as do Site Engineers and Project Engineers. It is mandatory for Package Managers across seven courses, and elective for Project Directors, Project Managers, Project Control Managers, Planning Managers, Risk Coordinators, Reporting Analysts and Independent Reviewers.
What does P9 own, and what does it not?
P9 owns the entire Detail (Field) level: 17 of the 23 Detail processes and 12 of the 17 Detail deliverables. It does not enter Governance, Master or Package levels. P3 owns supplier docket and contract admin at Detail level (D-310, D-320, D-520) and P4 owns field risk integration (D-410, D-450). P9 covers those interfaces in Courses 4, 6, 9 and 12.
Why does P9 cover all four PDCA phases?
Because field execution is cyclical. P9 is the only program in the catalogue with PDCA breadth across all four phases inside a single Pi level — the same team plans the look-ahead, does the work, checks the PPC and acts on the report inside one week.
Do I need to take the courses in order?
Yes. Foundations and system design precede planning routines, which precede daily execution, which precede check-phase analytics and act-phase reporting. Re-sequencing requires a Change Log entry and approving authority sign-off.
What is the capstone?
A Field Execution Capstone: stand up the Last Planner System on a representative work package and operate the full PDCA cycle for at least four consecutive weeks, producing a consolidated D-650 Last Planner Performance Report supported by D-100, D-220, D-230, D-240, D-540, D-610, D-620, D-630, D-640, D-740 and D-750. Minimum tier for participation is Advanced — Courses 1 to 13 complete.
How does P9 relate to the other programs?
It receives the Master schedule context from P1, the package scope, schedule and cost baseline from P2, the docket system from P3, risk action tasks from P4, and the controls framework from P5. It feeds D-540, D-240, D-740 and D-750 to P5; D-650 and D-620 to P6; delay and slippage reasons to P4; and field lessons and controls maturity evidence to P7. P8 provides the leadership foundation that Course 14 builds field coaching on top of.
